Four indoor ranges in Wichita post their walk-in prices online, and they differ more than you might expect. One has a 100-yard rifle range, one is a small three-lane shop range, and a couple are set up for first-timers who want to rent a gun and take a class. Here's how they compare, using prices and rules from each range's own website.
Side-by-side comparison

The ranges
Bullseye Indoor Shooting Range on North Terrace has 10 pistol stalls out to 25 yards and what it calls the only indoor 100-yard high-power rifle range in the Great Plains, with five lanes. The pistol fee has no time limit, which is good value if you like to take your time. You must be 21 to rent a pistol. Bullseye runs a ladies-only Women's Handgun 101 (about 3 hours, $80 including range fee, ammo and instruction) and a Youth Rifle Class for ages 8-17 with a guardian ($50). League nights can close the range, so check the Bullseye calendar. Hours: Monday-Friday 10am-7pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday noon-6pm.
Range 54 on East Kellogg describes itself as family-friendly and climate-controlled. Rentals are a flat $17 and you can swap guns as often as you like, as long as you buy Range 54 ammo. Eye protection is $7.49 and ear protection $2.99 if you don't bring your own. The Range 54 site lists handgun basics, concealed carry, women-only courses and private lessons, plus specials like 2-for-1 Tuesdays and free lanes for ladies on Wednesdays. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10am-8pm, Sunday 1-6pm.
Rainier Arms Firearms Academy on North Greenwich charges by the lane, so it can be the cheapest option for a group of two or three. Its rental program lets you try up to three guns at a time for a flat fee with range-safe ammo, though the Rainier site shows different rental prices on different pages, so ask at the counter. The 5-hour Handgun Orientation ($175) has no prerequisites. The minimum shooting age is 12, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian. Hours: Monday-Saturday 11am-7pm, Sunday 11am-5pm.
Knapp Weaponry is a gun shop with three indoor lanes at 10 yards, open during store hours with no appointment needed. At $10 for two hours it's the lowest walk-in price we've found in Wichita. Rifles and shotguns need staff approval, and steel-core ammo isn't allowed. Under 18 must be with a parent or guardian, or have a signed youth waiver if with another adult. Knapp sells Pistol 101 tickets through Eventbrite. It's closed Wednesdays and Sundays.
The Bullet Stop on West Pawnee is on KDWP's public range list for handgun and smallbore rifle, but its website wasn't loading when we checked and KDWP doesn't say whether it's indoor. Call before you go.
Which one fits you
- First time, want to rent and get help: Range 54 and Rainier both rent guns and list beginner classes. Bullseye also rents, but pistol renters must be 21.
- Rifle shooting or sighting in a scope: Bullseye is the only Wichita range we know of with an indoor 100-yard lane. See our guide to sighting in a deer rifle in Kansas.
- Lowest price, bringing your own handgun: Knapp Weaponry, if 10-yard lanes are enough.
- Two or three people sharing a lane: Rainier or Range 54, since both charge less for extra shooters.
- Bringing kids: Check each range's age rules first. See our guide to kids and youth shooting in Kansas.

Walk-in lane fees at the four ranges above run from $10 for two hours at Knapp Weaponry to $20 per lane per hour at Range 54 and Rainier, before rentals, targets, ammo and tax.
Can I rent a gun at a Wichita range without owning one?
Yes. Bullseye, Range 54 and Rainier list rental guns. Many ranges require a photo ID, and they set minimum ages for rentals and require you to use their ammo. Bullseye requires pistol renters to be 21.
Is there an indoor rifle range in Wichita?
Yes. Bullseye has a five-lane indoor 100-yard high-power rifle range. Range 54 also has rifle lanes; ask about distance and caliber limits.
Do I need to bring eye and ear protection?
Expect it to be required. Range 54 sells it at the counter and other ranges may sell or loan it, but bringing your own saves money if you go often.
