The Kansas regular firearm deer season runs December 2 through December 13, 2026, according to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) season page. Most hunters want to confirm their rifle's zero a week or two before opening day, and the problem is finding a range with a rifle lane long enough that is actually open in late November.

This page lists the Kansas ranges in our directory with rifle lanes, grouped by area, with the hours and fees we found on each range's own site or KDWP page. Many outdoor ranges cut hours or close in cold weather, so call before you load the truck.

Wichita and south-central Kansas

Bullseye Indoor Shooting Range, Wichita. Bullseye has an indoor 100-yard high-power rifle range with five lanes, which makes it the easiest year-round option in the state if the weather turns. The non-member rifle range fee is $19 plus tax per person per hour. Posted hours are Monday to Friday 10am-7pm, Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday noon-6pm, but league nights can close the range, so check their calendar. With only five rifle lanes, you may have to wait for a lane on busy weekends.

Lake Afton Public Shooting Range, Goddard. This Sedgwick County range is open to the public only on the second Saturday and Sunday and the fourth Saturday of each month, 9am-4pm, according to its KDWP listing. Before the opener, that means Saturdays, November 14 and 28, plus one November Sunday (KDWP doesn't say whether that is the 8th or the 15th), if the schedule holds. Some Google reviewers say they found it closed on listed days, so call first. Fees are $15 for adults, $5 for ages 13-17 and free for 12 and under. Target stands, foam earplugs and safety glasses are provided. The phone is only answered when the range is open.

El Dorado State Park Shooting Range, El Dorado. Call first. Run by a Friends group on state land inside El Dorado State Park. The range's own site lists Wednesday-Thursday 10am-2pm, Friday-Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 1-6pm, but only as summer hours (April through October). It doesn't post November hours, so call (316) 251-2962 before driving out. The site lists $15 a day per adult (children 8-12 free with a paying adult), and a state park vehicle permit is required.

Trigger Guard Public Shooting Range, Wellington. An outdoor range open to the public with six bays and a 140-yard rifle lane. Non-members pay $10 per hour per person. The range's site says it is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday but does not post full hours, and it closes when it is under 30F. Call first.

Don't count on the state-owned Cheney Lake Shooting Range this fall. The KDWP Cheney range page said it would close once renovations began in summer 2026, and no reopening date has been posted. Call 620-459-6922 to check.

Kansas City area

Hillsdale Shooting Range, Paola. Inside Hillsdale State Park, with 17 rifle lanes out to 100 yards and six lanes at 200 yards. Winter hours start the first weekend of November: Friday to Sunday 11am-5pm, last entry 4pm, closed Monday to Thursday. The range closes if it is under 45F at noon or there is snow or ice, which matters a lot in late November. The 2026 gate fee is $20 a day for rifle and pistol (15 and under free with a paying adult), plus a $5 state park vehicle day pass. There are no gun rentals and no ammo sales, so bring everything you need. Details are on the range's site.

Indoor ranges in the Kansas City area, such as Centerfire Shooting Sports (25-yard lanes) and The Bullet Hole (rifle bay rated to .308), can be useful for function checks. Most indoor lanes are shorter than 100 yards, so ask about distance and caliber limits before you go.

Manhattan, Topeka and the rest of the state

Fancy Creek Range, Randolph. A concrete-baffled outdoor range in Tuttle Creek State Park, run by Friends of Fancy Creek Range. It has a 14-position 100-yard rifle range. The KDWP Tuttle Creek State Park page says it is open the first and third full weekends (Saturday and Sunday) of each month, 10am-4pm, with a $15 daily fee, plus a state park vehicle pass ($5 a day). In November 2026 that works out to November 7-8 and 21-22, if the schedule holds.

The Gun Garage & Shooting Range, Topeka. Indoor, with two 47-yard rifle lanes rated up to .308/7.62. That is short for a final 100-yard zero but can help with a rough check. Fees are not posted online.

Hollister Wildlife Area Range, Fort Scott. State-owned, with a high-power rifle range. The KDWP page lists March-November weekend hours, but the dates shown are from 2022, so call before you go.

Godfreys Indoor Ranges, Junction City, allows rifles at $15 per person per hour. Ask about lane length before you go.

For western Kansas, KDWP lists high-power rifle ranges in places like Liberal and St. Francis. See our Kansas range list and call ahead, since hours are rarely posted.
